College Football Week 4 Preview

College football is back and we're ready to share all our thoughts on the biggest games of Week 4. We saw major shake ups in the AP rankings after many of the top 25 teams battled it out with each other. Let's take a look at what week 4 has in store for us.

Iowa 2-1 (NR) at Rutgers 3-0 (NR)

The Hawkeyes and the Scarlet Knights meet in a Big 10 matchup for the first time since the 2023-24 season. Talk about 2 wildly different teams. Rutgers QB Athan Kaliakmanis has been on an absolute tear throwing for over 800 yards and 7TDs in the first three games of the season. Meanwhile, Iowa's Mark Gronowski has managed just 306 yards and 3 TDs so far this season. Granted Rutgers hasn't had much competition in their first 3 games, though Ohio did keep it close, the Scarlet Knights were dominant over Miami of Ohio and Norfolk State winning by a combined 105-27.

Iowa's defense will be the X-factor in the game in my opinion. Kirk Ferentz has now cemented his legacy as the Big Ten's winningest coach, and many believe that his time at Iowa may be coming to a close. The Hawkeyes haven't been able to really compete in the Big 10 for a number of years and Ferentz's offensive style hasn't evolved with the times. A loss this weekend would drop Iowa to 2-2 and with Indiana, Penn State, Oregon, and USC all still on their schedule, the Hawkeyes could very easily end this season under .500.

The BetQL computer model has Iowa winning in 57% of its simulations with a projected final score of 27.5-25. Looking at the current lines, we'd suggest looking at the total. Our projections have 52.5 points being scored. So we're taking Over 45.5 on ESPNBET.

Michigan State 3-0 (NR) at USC 3-0 (25)

USC is back in the top-25 after a 33-17 win last weekend against Big 10 rival Purdue. This week they'll stay in the Big 10 as they take on the 3-0 Spartans. Michigan State isn't the powerhouse they once were, and have potentially 3 more games in conference against top-25 teams left on their schedule. The Trojans are a big favorite in this game, with current #9 ranked Illinois waiting for the them next week. DraftKings has the current total over/under is 55.5 which is 1 point less than what our computer is currently projecting. Our tip: Take the over 55.5 on DraftKings currently at -108.

Florida 1-2 (NR) at Miami 3-0 (4)

Remember when people thought the Gators were going to shake up the SEC this season? That's not going to happen now. They've dropped 2 in a row and now have to "travel" to Miami to take on the #4 ranked Hurricanes. Miami on the other hand, is positioned well to win the ACC this season and they've now knocked off two top 25 teams already this season. Miami has only allowed 13 points per game while scoring over 40 points per game on average. The Hurricanes have #7 ranked Florida State waiting in the wings next week in an ACC clash, but I don't think they've looking past the always dangerous Gators. We've got Miami as a 2 point favorite according to our computer simulations. Our tip: take Florida +7.5 currently at -106 on FanDuel.
